Hawaii security deposit return deadline calculator
In Hawaii, the landlord has 14 days to return your security deposit or send an itemized list of deductions (HRS 521-44(a), (b), (c), (d), (f), (g), (h)). Enter your move-out date to get the exact date.
Hawaii: deposit (or itemized deductions) due within 14 days.
Add your move-out date to see the deadline.
- Counted from when the rental agreement ends, not from when you move out or return the keys. Within those 14 days the landlord must give written notice of any amount kept, with evidence of the costs, and return the rest.
- A refund mailed to the address you supplied and postmarked by midnight of day 14 counts as on time. If the landlord misses the deadline, they lose the right to keep any of the deposit.
